Steven’s fusion with theGems appears to be a result of him becoming a human. Steven’s unique takes on Rose’s weapons and powers explain why he possesses them in the first place.
According to Rose, Steven will be half her, while Greg will be half her. Because Steven is permanently fused, he has a permanent fusion. Furthermore, there cannot be a Gem in addition to fusion. Once a human and a Gem have been fused, they cannot be separated. A human /Gem fusion cannot unsuscribe the way a normal fusion can. The name Steven is derived from the words Rose and Greg, both of which are synonymous with bisexuality. As a result of this, Rose’s statement, “Steven, we cannot both exist,” is used to explain why she means it. As a result, Steven is permanently fused to the body. It is impossible to separate the human from the Gem after it has been fused together. The only difference between a Gem/human fusion and a normal fusion is that a Gem fusion cannot be fused in the same way as a normal fusion. Now, it seems that the show is testing the waters once again with the possibility of another major character transformation. This episode not only challenges the traditional idea of what a family is, but also what a relationship is. For example, in the episode “Jail Break” it is revealed that one of the Gems, Garnet, is actually a fusion of two Gems. One of the things that makes Steven Universe so special is its willingness to experiment with its storytelling and characters. It’s been over a year since Steven Universe first premiered on Cartoon Network, and the show has quickly become a fan-favorite.
